This is my last post before Christmas Day. Next post Friday 31 December. I'm celebrating the story of the birth of baby Jesus. (To highlight a picture please click it.)
As the event begins the band plays Christmas Carols and those who have come sing. Hearing in a dream that King Herod in Israel was looking for them and wanted to kill Jesus, Joseph and Mary took their boy and fled to Egypt (inside the church building) where they and everybody else had benign stuff to eat and drink until Herod died and it was time to close the church and go home. Not lost or locked awayI take part in Christmas Live because while having good fun and seeing others enjoy themselves, I'm doing just a little bit to make sure that what I understand to be the major reason for celebrating Christmas is noticed by at least one small part of the secular world. Various things are celebrated at Christmas. This year many people are celebrating leaving Covid-19 lockdown. Good. Others are celebrating being together with friends and families and giving gifts to show their affection for each other. Again Good. But to my mind, better than all of that is the love God showed by being born as a human baby and thus identifying with life as it is. I don't want that to be lost or locked away out of sight in church buildings. I hope that all of us, during our festive celebrations, will find time to consider the origins of what we are celebrating. I wish all my blog readers a very happy Christmas. □ John McInnes Friday 17 December 2021 Photo credits: Morris Robertson and Linda Cory: used with their kind permission. ##########
