They will condemn him to death and will hand him over to the Gentiles, who will mock him and spit on him, flog him and kill him.” Today I took part in a Good Friday contemplative worhip service at Ngaio Union, my local church. The centre of the normal worship space was taken over by a labyrinth, with various prayer stations set around it. Labyrinths are not unusual at churches but usually they are permanent features marked out on the ground with paving stones or by growing hedges. Whether permanent or temporary they are contemplation tools. The noton is, that, walking slowly around the labyrinth track helps you quieten your mind and focus on a spiritual theme, question or prayer – today, the sacrificial death of Jesus leading to his resurrection to be celebrated on Easter Sunday.ocusing on a spiritual question -------------------------------------- SundayLuke 24: 6 – 7 He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee: ‘The Son of Man must be delivered over to the hands of sinners, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.’ On Sunday I will again go to a service at my church. This time it will be a happy occasion. The cross is empty. Jesus 'has risen !' We will celebrate that Jesus the Christ is spiritually alive. But we won't focus just on ourselves. We will think about biblical teaching such as John 13:34-35, “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another." And to my mind 'one another' simply means 'all'. I wish you well John □ John McInnes Good Friday 29 March 2024 ##########
